I walked to town before the storm just to get caught in the rain, to feel something—warm rain in the hot jungle like the sky itself is holding me.

about meditations for Party girls

In December 2021 I arrived at a house on the beach in western central Mexico about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta.

That winter I sat down to transcribe over ten years’ worth of journals so that I could lighten the stacks of notebooks that were lining the backseat of my car after moving from Los Angeles, where I’d been born and spent most of my adult life.

As I attempted to organize them (nearly impossible given my habit of writing in about 4 notebooks at a time) I realized that the furthest-back entries I could find were from almost exactly 10 years earlier in 2012.

In 2012, I had left Los Angeles to live on a piece of land in the Bay Area called Cosmic Dance and underwent my first major spiritual training at the Mount Madonna Center, learning Yogic principles and practice under the silent Indian guru Baba Hari Dass.

I began to transcribe my notes from that period of seeking while continuing my daily journal practice that I’ve had since I was a kid while living in Mexico and undergoing a total upheaval and learning from other practitioners and medicines. My year in Mexico took on unexpected shapes as the plans I had when I moved there fell apart and I dissolved over and over. Thankfully my cat Prince Charming and my writing practice were there to keep me anchored.

Meditations for Party Girls began as a project to clear out space in my life, but it became a process of compiling and publishing a collection of journal entries from some of the most vulnerable and transformative times of my life.

MFPG was published in the summer of 2023 by Dream Boy Book Club.
